When it comes to choosing stylish, high-quality wallpaper, fashion isn’t everything. After all, trends come and go and while some styles capture the imagination and persist, others do not. This is true of interiors, clothing fashion and furnishings alike.

Nonetheless, there are some ideas that are trending just now and Pinterest may be as good a place as any to see what they are, according to Country Living. Many will be very keen to establish what the latest trends are before bringing in professional wallpaper installers.

While farmhouse patterns topped the list and may be preferred by those living outside London, others appear to confirm a shift away from minimalism and understated designs to more visually expressive looks. 

For this reason, bold looks, nature-based designs and maximalism were all popular trends, with this extending beyond wallpaper to the general interior look. 

In other cases there was still some contrast, with both contemporary looks and retro being popular. One important consideration, of course, is that the popularity of retro does mean that even if one style that is fashionable now goes out of fashion, there is a case for keeping it on the basis that it will have a ‘retro’ quality in years to come. 

This is not a frivolous thought by any means; high quality, stylish wallpaper can stand the test of time irrespective of changing fashions. 

Such a point was made by Claudia Jackson, an interior designer writing for the Irish Sun. She recently listed four types of interior design that will always be in fashion - a traditional look, a contemporary style, a “mid century modern” 1950s style that still influences design today, plus a rustic look. The last of these may, of course, fit well with the ‘farmhouse’ style that topped the Pinterest list.

So, while there may be many interesting new ideas about, you can still go for a décor based around a wallpaper style that will stand the test of time.
